What Do You Want to Be When You Grow Up?

Careers in Sports Panel Discussion
A professional skier, snowboarder, world traveler? Whether you’re young or old—it’s never too late to be inspired about your career path. This afternoon the youths of Aspen, along with five professionals in the sports industry (everyone from athletes to broadcasters) gathered in Aspen Elementary School for a panel discussion about careers in sports. The event—which was put together by ESPN X Games and moderated by Aspen Daily News’ sports editor Jon Bastian—explored the theory that doing what you love will undoubtedly lead to success. We were inspired, so it seemed necessary to share some of our favorite moments from this unique event with you. Check out the slideshow below and be sure to leave a comment and tell us what you want to be when (if ever) you grow up.

Wiley Maple

Wiley Maple won the FIS Rocky Mountain Division Colorado Ski Cup Downhill
this weekend at Beaver Creek FIS Rocky Mountain Division Colorado Ski Cup Downhill finished second on Saturday. Wiley is 17 years-old and has been beating out athletes in their twenties who are vying for spots on the U.S. Ski Team.Check out Plum's interview with this bright athlete on the MNN.

Pint-sized Shredder

Bridger Gile
Bridger Gile the kind of resume that grown-ups drool over and he's only eight years old. By age seven Gile, an Aspen local, had already racked up to two Nastar championships and scored two appearances in Warren Miller films. When he's not practicing cursive or subtraction, this second grader is busy being a forerunner (it's his forth year) in the superpipe for X Games. X Games Newbies

Every year the X Games one-ups itself and 2008 is no different. Fans can look forward to additions to the X Games 12 roster including Snowmobile Speed & Style as well as Skiing and Snowboarding Big Air. If that is not enough, the weekend also brings King of Quarters—the first ever Halfpipe competition to Aspen Mountain Friday and Saturday night from 5 to 7 p.m. While technically not part of X Games, King of Quarters still boasts big names such as Travis Rice and Tanner Hall so expect plenty, and we mean plenty, of amplitude. 

Free Music for All

ESPN Winter X Games isn't only about amplitude, adrenaline, and on-mountain shenanigans--it also boasts one X-treme soundtrack. New this year, Buttermilk with be abuzz with a plethora of live musical acts that will keep your toes tapping and your blood flowing every day of the Games. Some of our favorites include the all-female, ACDC cover band Hells Bells, singer/songwriter Mick Kelleher, and hip-hopper DJ KLAW. For a full a schedule of performers visit www.expn.com.
