Movember Means Mustache Time!

Mustache Mania

Pencil-thin, handlebar, Fu-Manchu—no matter how you shave it, mustaches make a serious statement for the men who sport them. Why not have your ‘stache say something important by signing up for the second annual Movember event?

Hosted by The Aspen Given Foundation this month-long movement spreads Prostate Cancer awareness, raising a whopping $21 million globally and $20,000 locally (in the Roaring Fork Valley).

Money raised by the Valley was donated to the American Prostate Cancer Foundation as well as to local programs that help spread awareness among both men and women. So let that 5 o’clock shadow grow! Register for Movember at the kickoff party at Jimmy’s restaurant Nov. 5 at 5:30 p.m.

But Movember isn’t just about ridiculous facial hair—free PSA testing will begin Nov. 11 at Aspen Valley Hospital (925.3730) and locals can learn more about prevention during the public lecture about Prostate Cancer, Nov. 20 at The Aspen Given Institute. Don’t worry if you can’t grow a mustache as you can always show your support by purchasing $35 tickets to the Movember Gala at Belly Up Nov. 25, 8 p.m.

So trim it, twirl it, shape it—whatever you do, rock that mustache for Movember.

Art and Fab Fur in the Roaring Fork Valley

Dennis Basso Freestyle 2007

Models walk the runway in Dennis Basso's 2007/2008 winter collection at the Dec. 28 Freestyle--a fabulous benefit for the Aspen Art Museum.

The 2007 Dennis Basso Freestyle—Aspen’s most fashionable, decadent, and downright fabulous fund-raiser for the Aspen Art Museum returns the St. Regis Resort Aspen, Dec. 28. After walking the red carpet, fashionistas can indulge with Möet & Chandon Champagne and cruise a silent auction that boasts fashion pieces, unique trips, and of course, contemporary art that is sure to catch your eye.

Christie’s auctioneer Lydia Fenet will also host an exciting live auction where guests can use their paddle to bid on their favorite items. Last year’s Freestyle raised more than $600,000 so be sure to bring your checkbook. The gala ends with a bang when Dennis Basso’s 2007/2008 winter collection of fabulous embellished furs debuts on the runway.

So get glamorous and show your support for the Aspen Art Museum by purchasing a ticket for this see-and-be-seen event. For more information call 970-925-8050.
