Aspen Dogs May Get a Sweet New Ride...Public Transportation

Officials of the Aspen City Council and Roaring Fork Transportation Authority are considering a proposal that would allow all dogs, regardless of service capability, to ride on Aspen's buses. The proposal is the brainchild of former councilwoman Georgeann Waggaman, and is aimed at reducing the number of cars on Aspen's streets.

The Examiner reports:

"The Aspen City Council agreed to pursue the idea on Monday at the suggestion of former councilwoman Georgeann Waggaman.

She says she often drives less than two miles to work because it's the only way to take her dog with her. Waggaman suggests charging dog owners $35 to $50 for a "pooch pass" that would allow them to take their dogs along.

RFTA spokeswoman Sylvia Cranmer says dogs in Aspen are allowed in many banks, stores and hotels and offered treats and water bowls."

Anyway, we at Plum, like all of Aspen, are big fans of our canine buddies, and wouldn't mind sharing a seat on the bus.

Here's one of our favorite dogs of the past year, Ajax, winner of Plum's Dog of the Month Contest December 2007.

And the winner is...

To avoid dog fights on the bus and people getting bitten when paws get stepped on, dogs should be required to wear a muzzle to board the bus! Then I'm all for it!
