Outdoor Eating in Aspen

Aspen has approximately 80 restaurants, and although we aren't complaining, the endless amount of eateries makes the decision of where to dine a tough one. We thought we'd make it a little easier by sharing our favorite locations for when you want to head out for a night on the town.

The Sun Also Sets
Aspen boasts one heck of a sunset and plenty of outdoor dining in which to enjoy it. Jimmy's deck has unobstructed views of where the sun dips into pink and purple and serves up delicious crab cakes and a wide selection of fine tequila and mezcals. Plato's at the Aspen Meadows Resort is a hidden gem with a large patio and such magnificent views of the sunset, you'll find it hard to believe your eyes.

After a Day in the Outdoors
Looking to catch a tasty bite after a long day of mountain biking, rafting, or hiking? Head downvalley for the always scrumptious Riverside Grill in Basalt, located right on the Frying Pan River. 39 Degrees at the Sky Hotel is another fabulous post-workout eatery with its comfy outdoor couches. You can even take a dip in the pool or hot tub before you dine.

Date Time
Sushi always makes for a great date and the delicious menu and laid-back atmosphere at Kenichi make it perfect for twosomes. Sit in the dinning room or post up at the sushi bar. Either way, be sure to order one of their decadent signature cocktails. If raw fish isn't your thing, try the Campo/Cache Cache joint patio. These two restaurants offer delicious Italian and French cuisine respectively, and their outdoor seating is always lively and packed. Be prepared to see some familiar faces as this is definitely a locals' hot spot.

Best Decks
With such beautiful weather, it's a must to move your meal outside. Try Elevation's new, sprawling deck, and be sure to order their famous wasabi caesar salad. Those interested in a little people-watching should check out the patio at D19, where you can watch passersby stroll around the Hyman Avenue Mall. But the patio isn't the only thing that makes D19 a don't miss—the Italian-inspired fare is some of our favorite anywhere.
