No Such Thing As Off-season in Aspen

Aspen has definitely hit a slower stride now that Labor Day has come and gone, but there are still plenty of don't-miss happenings taking place this off-season. Here are three of our favorite events sure to keep your September both busy and fun, and they just may leave you thinking, "What happened to off-season?" Aspen/Snowmass Ride for the Cure Komen Aspen brings the 4th annual Aspen/Snowmass Ride for the Cure to town Saturday, September 8. More than 400 riders will show their strength on the 100-mile route (there is also a 30-mile option). The event raises money for breast-cancer awareness and research. Seventy-five percent of the proceeds remain in the Roaring Fork Valley, providing women with free breast exams and breast-cancer education. For more information on the Aspen/Snowmass Ride for the Cure and registration, please visit www.komenaspen.org. Snowmass Balloon Festival/ Snowmass Wine & Jazz You would have to be an airhead to miss the Snowmass Balloon Festival, which fills the sky with more than 30 hot-air balloons September 13-16. Don't forget to bring a camera because these colorful balloons look breathtaking as they float among the Rockies. While the balloons cruise at high altitude Saturday, attendees can indulge themselves at Snowmass Wine & Jazz, an event raising money for local nonprofits. By purchasing a $50 ticket, wine-lovers can peruse the Snowmass VIllage Mall and bid on more than 100 silent auction items while listening to live jazz and sipping a variety of wine. Whether you go for the hot-air balloons or the wine and music, this jam-packed weekend in Snowmass offers something for everyone. Aspen Ruggerfest If you're looking to be entertained by some no-holds-barred, not-for-the-meek, full-contact competition, be sure to head to Wagner Park and Rio Grande Park September 13-16 for the 39th annual Aspen Ruggerfest. This Rugby tournament brings nearly 50 teams from across the globe to Aspen to compete in five divisions: Men's Open, Women's Open, Masters 35 and older, Masters 45 and older, and Masters 50 and older. Show your local pride by cheering on the the Gentlemen of Aspen as they compete for the title. For more information on Ruggerfest or to resister a rugby team, please visit www.aspenrugby.com.
