Aspen resident and professional skier John Nicoletta passed away April 11 while competing in the U.S. Freeskiing Series competition in Alaska. He will be greatly missed but his spirit will never be forgotten.
He was an awesome, kind and loving young man, a true role model and a heck of alot of fun. He will be missed in so many ways, by so many people. Our prayers to his family and friends.

I didn't know him, but I was witness to his positive energy on the hill during multiple comps. Prayers to his family and friends. This was a terrible tragedy.
Such a class act, one of a kind friend. I cherish all our time together. My brother will introduce you to some good souls. I miss you John, you lived life like we all should.
A very tragic loss to be sure.I am saddened to hear of this young man, taken from this earth so early in life.May God bring peace to all who knew and loved him.
As a witness of this horrible and tragic event, I want to set the record straight that John was a very smart and even more talented skier, and he was skiing a line that he perceived, same as the rest of us, as a safe line. I'm sure John, like the rest of us, never thought that would be the last time he would be dropping in... I can't describe how much this has affected myself and other competitors. My heart and all of my love go out to his family. John will not be forgotten, but greatly missed. RIP forever, brother... -Kevin O'Meara
We did not know young John but knew how proud his parents, Betty and Steve, were of his significant accomplishments athletically and otherwise. If he was anything like his Mom and Dad, he was a kind, gentle and very giving human being. Our heartfelt sympathies go out to the entire circle of family and friends that were so positively impacted by John's sadly brief stay with us. May he rest in peace and may his family cherish his memory.

I wish I could share all the memories of my friendship with John, because each and every one was as sublime as his character. Through this aching loss, I still can't help but smile in thinking of him. I'm comforted only by knowing that he lived every moment to its full potential...offering 100% effort in everything he did. And his passion for skiing was rivaled only by his passion for relationships and friendship. To his family- thank you for nurturing such a wonderful person into this world. Your loss is devastating. We share it with you.
All of our thoughts and prayers are with those who knew and were fortunate enough to ever be around John. His zest for life and amazing personality will be missed, but never forgotten. R.I.P. friend!

I recall that John and your family reached out in kindness to one of my sons some years ago. Thank you for your generosity. We are so sorry for your tragic loss. Please accept our heartfelt condolances. No parents should ever have to bury their child. Unfortunately we lost a son/brother in December. Unless someone has had this horrible event occur in their lives they cannot understand. Try to remember the good times they help me through the days. You and your family will remain in our prayers.
It has almost been a month now since the tradgic death of one of our fallen soldiers, not a day gone by without the great memory of John. You will forever be in my heart John Sickolleta one the smoothest in the game. Thoughts go out to your family and of course to our extended freeskiing family.
